Three algorithms decide the route before the truck leaves. UpBuoy pool-service field operations platform.
UpBuoy runs pool-service companies end to end: an optimizing route engine, native iOS and Android field apps in two languages, photo-verified stops, water chemistry, and Stripe billing on one multi-tenant system.
Client background
UpBuoy is operations software for pool-service companies, built by Internal Automation as its own product and sold to operators who run daily routes with crews in the field.
Business challenge
A pool-service company is a routing problem wearing a uniform. The office decides who goes where, technicians work all day out of easy reach, and the invoice depends on someone remembering what actually happened at each stop.
The usual answer is three vendors: a scheduler, a field app, and a billing system, none of which agree with each other. Every disagreement between them becomes a phone call, and every missed stop becomes an argument with a customer that the company cannot win without evidence.
Delivering the solution
The route optimizer runs three algorithms, nearest neighbor, a genetic algorithm, and 2-opt over a real distance matrix, so the day's stops are ordered before anyone turns a key.
Technicians work from native apps, a SwiftUI build on iOS and a separate Android app, both in English and Spanish, carrying the route, per-stop checklists, chemical readings, and photo capture. Every visit closes with photos, which compress themselves to 1920px tuned JPEG on upload, with a nightly sweep keeping two storage tiers consistent.
Quotes, invoices, and payments run on Stripe, including Connect for multi-party payouts, with public no-login views so a customer can settle up without an account. Email goes through Resend and SMS through Twilio, both logged against the customer record.
Water chemistry is handled in the same system, with a Langelier Saturation Index calculator and dosing math across a 14-chemical catalog, so the reading a technician takes at the pool becomes the dose they add without a second tool.
Results
Built in 4 months, with the native iOS app a further six weeks.
UpBuoy Launches Multi-Tenant Pool-Service Platform With Native Field Apps and Route Optimization
The system pairs a three-algorithm route optimizer with iOS and Android field applications, photo-verified service stops, and Stripe billing. Built by Internal Automation.
KAILUA-KONA, HI · August 19, 2026 · UpBuoy has launched a multi-tenant operations platform for pool-service companies, built by Internal Automation, covering routing, field work, customer communication, and billing in a single system.
The route optimizer applies three algorithms, nearest neighbor, a genetic algorithm, and 2-opt over a real distance matrix, to sequence each day's service stops. Field technicians work from native applications on iOS and Android, available in English and Spanish, which deliver the route, per-stop checklists, chemical readings, and photo capture.
Every service visit is closed with photographic verification. Uploaded images are compressed to 1920 pixels as tuned JPEG, and a nightly process maintains consistency across two storage tiers.
Billing runs on Stripe, including Stripe Connect for multi-party payouts, with public no-login views that allow customers to pay without creating an account. Customer email is sent through Resend and SMS through Twilio, with both logged against the customer record. The platform also includes a Langelier Saturation Index calculator and dosing calculations across a catalog of 14 chemicals.
UpBuoy owns the platform, the field applications, and the billing integration.
