Ninety columns on every private company in America. Kona Equity private-company intelligence database.

Kona Equity opened a searchable database of 3.8 million US private companies, ranked by a proprietary growth score and sold through a credit-metered API and self-serve billing.

Client background

Kona Equity sells private-company intelligence: revenue, headcount, growth, and contacts on businesses that file nothing publicly and appear in no reliable index.

Business challenge

Private-company data is the hardest kind to get. There are no public filings to scrape, coverage is thin wherever it exists, and the vendors who do sell it price it for enterprise procurement and quote on request.

That leaves the buyer who wants to search four million companies at eleven at night with nowhere to go. The product had to be both the dataset and the entire commercial apparatus around it, because a sales call is exactly the friction the customer is trying to avoid.

Delivering the solution

The database covers 3.8 million US private companies at roughly 90 columns each: annual revenue, quarterly revenue and employee series running from 2018 through 2024, growth rates, industry classification, and contacts. Filtering that without staring at a spinner took five full-text search columns and around thirty purpose-built indexes inside Postgres.

Ranking is where the product takes a position. A proprietary G Score rates every company from 0 to 8 on growth and is the default sort everywhere, so the fastest-growing businesses surface first instead of the alphabetically luckiest.

The commercial machinery is built to the same standard as the data. Stripe subscriptions with a customer portal, a native invoices page with signed share links, and a credit-metered API at two cents per credit: send a domain, get the company and its contacts back.

A two-way HubSpot integration maps roughly 110 properties, so a customer's CRM and the database stay in agreement without anyone exporting a spreadsheet.

Kona Equity has opened a searchable intelligence database covering 3.8 million US private companies, built by Internal Automation.

Each company record carries approximately 90 columns, including annual revenue, quarterly revenue and employee counts from 2018 through 2024, growth rates, industry classification, and contact records. The search layer uses five full-text search columns and approximately thirty purpose-built Postgres indexes, allowing the full dataset to be filtered interactively.

Results are ranked by the G Score, a proprietary growth rating from 0 to 8 computed for every company in the database and applied as the default sort order.

Access is sold through a self-serve Stripe subscription with a customer portal and a native invoices page, and through a credit-metered API priced at two cents per credit, which returns company and contact data for a submitted domain. A two-way HubSpot integration maps approximately 110 properties between the database and a subscriber's CRM.

Kona Equity owns the database, the API, the billing system, and the CRM integration.
